If you ask dental students at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry why they are interested in pursuing a career in dentistry at UK, many times, they will mention service—their passion for providing community support and the many opportunities they can participate in at UK to provide care and engage with communities. For dental student Jenna Perkins, this calling to serve helped shape her summer before starting her second year in dental school.
On a perfect day for golf, 56 players participated in the college’s annual Alumni Association Golf Tournament. Fifteen teams competed for best score. The top three teams consisted of the following players: First Place: Daniel Passidomo, Andy Bayer, Andrew Cain, and Phil Speelman; Second Place: Shiv Pruthi, Daniel Crain, Connor Leisge, and Dylan Kelley; and Third Place: Tyler Bolin, Rusty Bolin, Joe Roberts, and Cole Hackett.
Dental student members of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD) at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD) are ramping up for their largest annual fundraiser of the year—the Strut Your Smile Charity Fashion Show and Silent Auction. Proceeds from the event will benefit the women of GreenHouse17, an advocacy agency serving 17 counties in Kentucky, committed to ending intimate partner abuse in families.

No appointment needed. Bring your UK ID. Vaccine meets UK Healthcare immunization requirements. A limited amount of Fluzone High-Dose will also be available. UKCD faculty, staff, and GME students can receive the vaccine at no cost. UK flu shot badge buddy available. Students and externs may receive the vaccine for $10.
University of Kentucky Provost David Blackwell has named Professor Jeffrey Okeson to the position of interim dean of the College of Dentistry. Dr. Okeson has been a full-time faculty member at UK for 45 years. He currently serves as chief of the Division of Orofacial Pain and is the director of the UK Orofacial Pain Clinic, which he founded in 1977. He previously served as chair of the Department of Oral Health Science.
Melvyn Yeoh, DMD, MD, FACS, has been named chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He will serve a six-year term in this critical leadership role.
Dr. Luciana Shaddox has been named associate dean for research at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD), effective July 1, 2019. As associate dean for research, Shaddox will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to help develop and facilitate new research and new research collaborative teams within and outside UKCD.
The Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP) offers academic enrichment options for high school graduates who are interested in becoming physicians and dentists to serve communities throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Since the 1980s, PEPP has provided an opportunity for students in underserved Kentucky counties, and minority populations underrepresented in healthcare, to explore a career in medicine or dentistry.

The purpose of the University Research Professorship program is to recognize and publicize research accomplishments of scholars across the full range of disciplines at UK. The award amount is $10,000 for one year, to be used to further the research, scholarship and creative endeavors of the awardee.
