One Day for UK 2023

One Day for UK, the University's annual giving day where students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends can support their favorite college, program, and cause, is taking place on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. This year, the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD) wishes to support Saturday Morning Clinic (SMC), an effort to care for the underserved children of Kentucky.  

Alessandri Bonetti received 2023 AADSM Student Excellence Award

Congratulations to Dr. Anna Alessandri Bonetti on receiving the 2023 American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) Student Excellence Award for her poster submission, "Predictors of first onset temporomandibular disorders during mandibular advancement device therapy for obstructive sleep apnea."    Bonetti is currently in the University of Kentucky's College of Dentistry (UKCD) Orofacial Pain Certificate program. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in 2019.  

Boggero Accepted into ORBIT Institute

The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD) congratulates Dr. Ian Boggero on being accepted into the ORBIT Institute as a fellow. The ORBIT Institute: Developing Behavioral Treatments to Improve Health is a NIH-funded short course that accepts 25 Fellows per year and trains them in behavioral intervention development for cancer prevention/treatment and related health behaviors.   

2023 UKCD Admissions Workshop

Are you interested in the profession of dentistry or learning more about applying to dental school?  Register here to attend the 2023 UKCD virtual admissions workshop Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10:45am-2:30pm.  The virtual workshop will allow prospective students to learn about admissions to our DMD program, virtually tour the college, and meet a number of faculty, staff, and current students.   

February 2023 DEI Calendar

  February is Black History Month in the United States and Canada.  Daily Observations:  February 1: National Freedom Day, honoring the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that abolished slavery.  February 1: St. Brigid of Kildare, celebrated by some Christian denominations, is the feast day for St. Brigid.

December 2022 DEI Calendar

  This diversity calendar starts with a month-long celebration: Universal Human Rights Month   December 1: World AIDS Day, encouraging activism and education on HIV and AIDS December 3: International Day for People with Disabilities, planned to raise awareness of the issues people with disabilities face. December 6: St. Nicholas' Day, the saint's day for the inspiration for modern-day Santa Claus celebrated in western Christian countries.

Wade named Chief of Division of Comprehensive Care

  Congratulations to Dr. Katherine Wade on being named the Chief of the Division of Comprehensive Care.  

Helton Supports Interprofessional Healthcare Community

Bobby Helton, UK College of Dentistry (UKCD) Director of Student Affairs, is currently teaching UK 101 (Academic Orientation, specifically for first-year students) in the Interprofessional Healthcare Residential College Living Learning Community (IHRC LLC) at the invitation of Dr. Branden O’Farrell, the director of the IHRC. Helton also participates in ongoing committees and working groups aimed at supporting and enhancing the IHRC.  

Santamaria awarded CCTS Pilot Award

The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD) congratulates Dr. Mauro Santamaria on being awarded the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Pilot Award. The award was given for Santamaria’s study, “Understanding mechanisms of oral mucosa wound healing: A step toward precision therapy for vulnerable populations.” The purpose of the CCTS Pilot Award is to fund pilot projects that strengthen the development of sustainable partnerships between academic research and community stakeholders for translational research.
