For Lillian Jones, character is rooted in integrity—and in the willingness to slow down, think critically, and choose what is right, even when it is not easy. “In dentistry and in life,” she explains, “there are many moments when the easy choice and the right choice are not the same.” To Lillian, true character shows up when you take the time to fully understand a situation, consider different perspectives, and make decisions that benefit others, even when doing so complicates your own path. “Character shows up when you slow down, use what you know, and choose what benefits the people around you,” she adds. That philosophy has guided her personal journey and continues to shape the kind of dentist—and person—she strives to be.

Looking ahead, Lillian’s vision for making an impact in dentistry is grounded in both education and service. With a background in materials engineering, she hopes to pursue a career in dental education as a professor, helping future dentists feel confident and informed when selecting dental materials. In a field saturated with product options and marketing claims, she sees a real need for clarity. “With so many products available, it can be difficult to separate marketing from meaningful information,” Lillian says. By focusing on the fundamentals behind dental materials, she hopes to equip students with the tools to make sound, evidence-based decisions throughout their careers.

Service is equally central to her goals. Lillian is deeply committed to caring for children, patients with special needs, and individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. She believes dentistry has the power to improve lives when access and compassion are prioritized, and she wants her career to reflect a genuine, long-term commitment to serving communities that often face barriers to care.

Lillian’s passion for teaching and mentorship has been shaped by the many individuals who have supported her along the way. Rather than pointing to a single defining mentor, she credits a collective foundation of guidance that inspired her love of teaching. “The best thing you can do for others, whether patients or peers, is to empower them,” she says. By sharing knowledge and skills in an accessible way, she strives to help those around her gain confidence and achieve improved outcomes on their own.

For students still on their path toward dentistry, Lillian offers honest and reassuring advice rooted in her own experience. “It’s impossible to be perfect, and the only thing you can control is the effort that you give,” she says. While high expectations can be motivating, setbacks are inevitable. Learning from mistakes and continuing forward with resilience, she believes, is what truly matters.

Outside of dental school, Lillian prioritizes balance and connection. Spending time with her husband, Noah, brings her the most joy, and their shared commitment to regular exercise supports both her physical and mental well-being. “Exercise is something I really try to prioritize during dental school because it helps me feel healthy and grounded,” she notes. Whether training for a marathon or working toward a new strength goal, setting fitness milestones each semester helps Lillian stay motivated, energized, and focused.

Through integrity, service, and a deep commitment to empowering others, Lillian Jones exemplifies the values that will shape the future of dentistry—one thoughtful decision, one student, and one patient at a time.
