Welcome Prospective Students!

Whether you are an undergraduate student about to apply for admission, a high school student looking at career options, or a non-traditional student who is considering changing careers, our website will provide you with the information and connections you need about the field of dentistry and our admissions process.

DMD Application Process

All applicants must apply through ADEA AADSAS® (ADEA Associated American Dental School Application Service) . The ADEA AADSAS application opens in mid-May, with submissions occurring in early June. https://www.adea.org/godental/apply/adea-aadsas/the-application-to-dental-school

Plan to apply in May of the year prior to intended entrance. AADSAS has a 4–6-week transcript verification process before an application reaches the Verified Status.

The college is currently not accepting transfer students or transfer credits.

UKCD Application Fee

Once applications have reached the AADSAS verified status, please watch for an email from the college requesting payment of an application processing fee. This is the first official email contact from the Admissions Office and is based on the candidate’s verification date. We will communicate all updates by email. As these emails sometimes find their way to Junk and Trash folders, please be watchful. AADSAS advises applicants to also add ‘donotreply@webadmit.org’ to their safe sender's list.

Reports are run daily in the Admissions Office to identify Verified Applications to request the $75 application fee. There is an option to request a fee waiver. Once the fee has been applied, the applicant receives a confirmation email. The Admissions Director assigns applications for review and the Admissions Office meets bi-weekly to review decisions.

Interview Invitation

Applicants are invited to interview at the request of the Admissions Committee. Only those application files that are complete will be considered for interviews. The interview schedule typically runs from the end of August until early December.

An invitation for an interview indicates that the Admissions Committee has a strong interest in you. It is important to note that many more applicants are interviewed than there are positions in the class.

Interview Invitations are extended via email beginning mid-July with the first interview sessions scheduled in late August. We strive for at least a 30-day notification for the applicant to make travel arrangements. The applicant is given the next assigned day in the interview schedule with an opportunity to reschedule as needed. Rolling invites happen throughout the interview cycle (August–December) until all interview days are filled (12 candidates per day).

The interview is a chance for the Admissions Committee to become acquainted with candidates beyond the application. UKCD conducts interviews in a panel format. This format allows each candidate to have a traditional interview in conversation style. Each interview panel will comprise members of the Admissions Committee, faculty, staff, and students.

After an interview session is filled with candidates, the Student Affairs Officer will send applicants an interview packet providing detailed information about their visit, including Directions, Airport/Hotel Information, Restaurant Recommendations, and Financial Aid Information. If there are any changes in UKCD faculty or staff participants prior to their visit, updates will be sent to the interview candidates.

Admission Decisions

The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry abides by the "Traffic Rules" guidelines as recommended by the American Dental Education Association. Thus, provisional or final acceptances will not be offered before December 15 to any applicant for the class to enroll in August. Candidates will receive an email at midnight and a phone call during the day regarding the admission's decision.

In the waiting period between the interview and the tell date, candidates may send in updates, letters of intent, etc.

When an offer of admission has been extended and accepted, the applicant is required to make a non-refundable deposit of $250 for a Kentucky resident and $1,000 for an out-of-state applicant. This deposit will be applied to the applicant's tuition at the beginning of the fall term.

If not offered admission, candidates may be waitlisted or declined. If waitlisted, candidates may submit updates and letters of intent. Guidance is offered to those declined after the spring semester has begun.
