For externs who wish to gain clinical experience through a working externship, the minimum amount of time that he/she should spend at the University of Kentucky is 2 weeks; however, we encourage students to spend a month.
Externs participate in all the activities of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service. This includes the outpatient clinic, operating room, and emergency room call. All extern activities are supervised by residents and attending faculty. The extern will also participate in all academic activities that are required of the residents. We limit participation to two externs at one time and consider applicants on a first come first served basis.
Limited local housing is available at reasonable rates. Direct information regarding campus housing is available through the Housing’s website, http://www.uky.edu/Housing/graduate, or by phone at 859-257-3722.
If you have questions about the externship program, please contact the OMS residency coordinator at 859-257-2002.
Applicants for both types of externship must submit all documents to Residency Program Coordinator Heather Pridemore at heather.pridemore@uky.edu.
