Master of Science Degree Programs

Continuing your post-doctoral education

Students enrolled in post-graduate programs in Periodontology, Orthodontics, and Orofacial Pain receive both a Master of Science degree from the University of Kentucky Graduate School and a certificate.

The goal of the Master of Science degree program is to produce graduates who are clinically adept, well-grounded in research and the biological basis of dentistry, and prepared to function at a high level in clinical practice and academic dentistry. The program is interdisciplinary, drawing faculty from the College of Dentistry and departments throughout the University of Kentucky.

The UK College of Dentistry programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Admissions Criteria

  • DMD or DDS degree from an accredited US or Canadian dental school or equivalent.
  • Applicants who are not native English speakers must score at least 550 (paper,) 213 (computer) or 79 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • For degree-seeking students, the Graduate School requires an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 and 3.00 on all graduate work; individual programs may have higher requirements.
  • UKCD graduate specialty programs require additional criteria for acceptance, as well as an additional application to the program.  For complete criteria, please see the Applications and Admissions page for each program.

Graduate School Application

In order for the application to be considered the Graduate School must have received the application fee ($65 for domestic and $75 for international students). The applicant should not send official transcripts to the Graduate School at this point. Only when admitted to a UKCD graduate specialty program should the applicant provide the Graduate School with official transcripts, and NBDE 1 or NBDE 2 or GRE scores.
