Program Description 

Implant Esthetic Solutions, Where are we in 2020?
This year’s symposium will address the latest developments in improving esthetics in implant dentistry, helping to guide clinicians to improve their surgical and restorative dental implant skills. Attendees will become familiar with the most current techniques to help simplify treatment and achieve outstanding esthetic clinical results. The lectures will focus on a clear and crisp “take-home” solution for the general practitioner or specialist that can immediately benefit their patient care.

World-renowned implant experts and internationally recognized speakers will share their knowledge and expertise in areas including: esthetic management in immediate implant placement and immediate implant restorations, current status of soft tissue augmentation procedures, pick for dental implant esthetics, and CAD/CAM technology opening new restorative treatment techniques for optimizing the esthetic restorations.

  • Illustrate workflows for digital diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Discuss the goals and requirements for implant provisional restoration.
  • Describe peri-implant soft tissue molding techniques. 
  • Show the digital implant provisional workflow.

Featured Speakers:

KanJoseph Kan, DDS, MS
Dr. Joseph Kan completed his specialty training in Prosthodontics as well as the Master degree from the Implant Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD) in 1997. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and the research coordinator for the Implant Dentistry Program in LLUSD. He also maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics and Implant Surgery. In 1997, Dr. Kan was the recipient of the Best Research Award in the 12th annual meeting of the Academy of Osseointegration. He also received the Judson C. Hinckey Scientific Award from the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry in 2003 and the Robert James Achievement Award in 2005. Dr. Kan is on the Periodontology/Implantology Editorial Board of the Practical Periodontics & Aesthetic Dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of Osseointegration, American College of Prosthodontists, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and an associate member of the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontists. Dr. Kan is one of few clinicians worldwide that had been trained in both the surgical and restorative discipline of implant dentistry. Besides lecturing both nationally and internationally, he has published over 40 articles in reference journals and chapters in textbooks.

HornLeslie Horn, DMD
Dr. Horn is a life-long Kentucky resident and the first female periodontist in private practice in Lexington. She started her periodontal practice in 1993 after completing her residency at the University of Kentucky where she also received her DMD. Dr. Horn moved her practice to Beaumont Centre in 2010 where she built a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. Beaumont Periodontics, Dr Leslie Horn uses the latest technology in order to ensure patient comfort and the best possible clinical outcome, including the latest generation I-cat, digital x-rays and paperless charts. Dr. Horn enjoys learning and teaching, traveling extensively to remain current in the latest dental materials, procedures and techniques, including Spear Education in Scottsdale, AZ and Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy in San Francisco. She shares her knowledge and advances dentistry in Central Kentucky by hosting two Spear Study Groups attended by many of the area’s most respected dental practitioners. Dr. Horn’s passion is providing the very best dental care to her patients. She is a member of Southland Christian Church and a proud member of the Big Blue Nation. She enthusiastically mentors females in the dental field as well as provides dental services through the Refuge Clinic and mission trips to Central and South America. Dr. Horn lives in Lexington with her husband and has four children.

Guest Speakers: 

Al YafiFiras Al Yafi, DDS
Dr. Al Yafi graduated from Al-Baath University with his DDS degree in 2000. Following graduation, Dr. Al Yafi completed a residency in Oral Surgery at Damascus Central Hospital and immediately earned his Arab Board Certificate for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2006. Following residency, he moved to Saudi Arabia where he worked in a private hospital as an oral surgeon for 6 years. In 2015, Dr. Al Yafi moved to the US to begin a year-long externship in periodontology at University of Kentucky. The following year he was a fellow of the University of Florida prosthodontic program. He has finally settled back into the periodontal program at UKY to begin his last stent of formal education. As a researcher clinician, Dr. Al Yafi has a great passion for CBCT applications, computer guided implant surgery and bone grafting, and he has published in these areas.

StapletonBrandon Stapleton, DMD, MSD
Dr. Stapleton is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Since graduating in 2015, he has maintained a part-time faculty position at UofL where he continues to work with students and residents. He is one of the first to graduate from UofL’s reinvigorated Prosthodontics Residency Program, celebrated for producing some of the finest specialists in the United States. The program at UofL is one of 57 accredited programs in the country and the only program of its kind in the state of Kentucky. While at UofL, Dr. Stapleton completed his Doctorate in Dental Medicine, a certificate in General Practice Residency, a certificate in Prosthodontics, and a Masters of Science in Dentistry. Since opening iDENTity Dental Studio in 2015, he has worked hard to bring advanced prosthodontic dental care to central Kentucky. In doing so, he has recently opened an in-house dental laboratory packed with digital technologies to help local dentists with more challenging cases. iDS Smile Lab opened in 2018 and is rapidly expanding offerings and assistance to local doctors who need and want extra care with their cases overseen by a prosthodontist.


Dr. KutkutAhmad Kutkut, DDS, MS, FICOI, DICOI
Dr. Kutkut, is the Director of Predoctoral Implant Program and an Associate Professor at University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in the Division of Prosthodontics since 2011. In 2010, Dr. Kutkut completed a Master Degree and a Certificate in Prosthodontics at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. In 2007, Dr. Kutkut completed a two-year certificate program in Implant Dentistry at New York University College of Dentistry Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. In 2005, Dr. Kutkut completed a certificate of Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at New York University College of Dentistry. Dr. Kutkut is an active member of ADEA, ITI, ACP, ICOI, and IAP. Presently Dr. Kutkut is a reviewer for many scientific journals such as; “Journal of Prosthodontics”, and “Journal of Oral Implantology.” Dr. Kutkut lectures both nationally and internationally and has published numerous articles and abstracts. In addition to his teaching, research, writing and lecturing, Dr. Kutkut is currently maintains a practice limited to implants, maxillofacial prosthetics, fixed and removable prosthodontics.

Refund Policy

A full refund, less a $50 processing fee, will be issued for all cancellations received in writing two weeks prior to the course date.  A 50% refund less a $50 processing fee will be given for cancellations received in writing one week prior to the course date, with no refund thereafter.  Refunds cannot be given for cancellations on or after the course starting date. Please note that a written request must be received before a refund may be processed. 

Cancellation Policy

UK College of Dentistry Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel or modify a course when circumstances warrant, including insufficient enrollment.  Dates, faculty or course content will be changed only when unavoidable.  If a course has been cancelled, participants will be notified and a refund will be issued.  Continuing Dental Education cannot be responsible for non-refundable airfare or other expenses in the event of a course cancellation.
