Dr. WinfreyDr. Emily Winfrey was recently named chief of the Division of Comprehensive Care for the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD). Previously Winfrey served as one of several team leaders in the division, helping to oversee patient care provided by dental students.

“As division chief, I hope to continue the work of previous division chiefs, Drs. Tom McConnell and David Thornton, to enhance the comprehensive care our dental students are providing. Our division has grown into an amazing team of talented dental professionals. It is a pleasure to work with and learn alongside experts in every facet of dentistry each day,” shares Winfrey.

The Division of Comprehensive Care seeks to provide comprehensive care in an atmosphere that simulates a private dental practice environment to optimize the clinical experience of UKCD’s dental students and their patients.

“We continue to integrate the latest in digital dentistry technology while reinforcing the fundamentals of quality care in order to provide our students the framework they need to succeed,” adds Winfrey. “Our students graduate with the same degree that hangs proudly on my wall, so I feel an added desire to ensure they leave with the best education I can provide them.”

Winfrey graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from UKCD in 2013 after attending Western Kentucky University for her undergraduate degree. After working in a private dental practice in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, for three years, Winfrey returned to UKCD as an assistant professor and member of the Restorative Division until moving to the Comprehensive Care Division.
