The weekend of October 6 marked the 101st University of Kentucky Homecoming, but Coach Stoops' Wildcats weren't the only ones dominating the football field. Students from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry took on rivals from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in their annual flag football tournament. The games, which have been a tradition since 1997, are a collaborative effort organized by members from both the UK and UofL chapters of the American Student Dental Association.
This year, the women's team brought home a third consecutive win as they shutout ULSD in a 6-0 victory. The men's team beat ULSD for the first time in ten years, ending the game with a 25-6 win.
For many, including third-year student Emaan Qureshi, the annual flag football game is a great way to decompress from the stressors of dental school.
"The games are a great way to meet other dental students, socialize and take a break from school," she said. "It's always nice to have something else to talk about other than class, patients, and lab work."
Taylor Blaylock, also a third-year student, has coached the men's team for the past two years.
"I really enjoy getting to know people in other classes, and getting to coach, which is something that I really love," he said, "but most of all, I was looking forward to helping both of our teams come out with victories."
Qureshi echoed that sentiment, adding:
"Beating Louisville at anything is always a plus!"
