Title: Statin use and Periodontal Disease occurrence among individuals with Type 2 Diabetes

During S3 Meetings, presentations are given by the various dental subspecialties, and following each presentation, experts in the audience—including general and specialty dentists—discuss the unique cases and challenges that present at the UK College of Dentistry. The goal of these rounds is to assist those in attendance in staying at the forefront of dental treatments and technology in use at the UK College of Dentistry.

Learning Objectives

• Identify burdens of Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and diabetes complications, such as Periodontal diseases (PD)
• Discuss lipid (cholesterol) lowering agents (statins) and the benefits/drawbacks in its use: The use of statins in PD.
• Explain the link between lipid (cholesterol) lowering agents (statins) and the occurrence of PD among Hispanics with T2D
