Earlier this month, the UK College of Dentistry (UKCD) partnered with the UK College of Nursing to offer the flu vaccine in UKCD’s Diagnosis, Wellness and Prevention Clinic for the first time. UKCD faculty, staff, and students received their shots from nursing and dental student teams in the clinic. 

“Our clinic underscores the importance of addressing the overall health needs of patients and vaccinations are an important part of preventative care. Nursing and dental students involved with our flu shot sessions appreciated having the opportunity to work together on this interprofessional activity,” says clinic nurse practitioner Angela B. Grubbs.

While supplies last, UKCD faculty, staff, and students, may visit the clinic to receive their flu shot on select dates and times—Tuesday and Thursday, from 9 am-noon and 2-5 pm. UKCD students and externs may receive the vaccine for $10. UKCD faculty, staff, and GME students may receive the vaccine at no cost. UK flu shot badge buddy available while supplies last. No appointment is necessary for UKCD faculty, staff, and students in order to receive a flu shot. Patients of the Diagnosis, Wellness and Prevention Clinic may also request to receive the flu vaccine during their scheduled appointment at the clinic. 

About the Diagnosis, Wellness and Prevention Clinic
The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry’s Diagnosis, Wellness and Prevention Clinic allows patients to seek care for both their oral and overall health needs in a single location. The clinic works to streamline care by offering patients a primary healthcare provider as well as a dentist. Patients benefit from the knowledge and skills of a nurse practitioner, supervising dentist, and dental student(s). In a single appointment, a patient will undergo a thorough dental and medical wellness exam and receive dental X-rays, as well as a dental cleaning if necessary.
