Congratulations to Dr. Jennie Ison on being named chief of the UK College of Dentistry Division of Oral Pathology.

“As a UKCD graduate, I am thrilled to be home and contribute to the legacy of excellence at UKCD. I am most excited to take a hands-on role in continuing to provide the excellent service and precision diagnostic information that University of Kentucky College of Dentistry Oral Pathology Biopsy Lab is known for throughout Kentucky and nationwide.”

Ison received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (UKCD) in 2012, a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Morehead State University. She completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Residency at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Speaking on her hopes and goals for the division, Ison shares she hopes, “To continue to grow the biopsy service and provide a solid foundation in oral pathology education to our dental students. Being from rural Eastern Kentucky and having been a general dentist prior to specializing in oral and maxillofacial pathology, I have experienced first-hand both the needs and challenges of practical application of this discipline to everyday dentistry.”

“Dr. Ison has done a wonderful job supporting all aspects of the division’s duties and has been very instrumental in expanding the biopsy services,” said UKCD Dean Dr. Jeff Okeson. “I am very confident she will be successful in representing the division in all college functions.”

In addition to serving as division chief and a UKCD Faculty Advisor, in 2022, Ison served as a reviewer of several publications including Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology; The Journal of the American Dental Association; Journal of Head and Neck Pathology; and the International Journal of Surgical Pathology.
