In July 2017, Dr. Ahmad Kutkut became president of the Kentucky section of the American College of Prosthodontists. Since then, he has worked diligently to foster new opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and growth.

"My goal is to make the ACP's Kentucky section number one in the nation by making future dentists aware of how a prosthodontist can provide care to patients to improve their quality of life and satisfy their dental needs beyond general dentistry," he said, "Also, I want to enhance collaboration between disciplines to increase the standard of care."

In efforts to heighten visibility of the specialty while achieving these goals, he and his team set out to create activities designed to bring together new ideas, techniques and research into clinical practice. These efforts culminated in the creation of the Interdisciplinary Study Club for specialists and the Prosthodontics Study Club for students and residents.

The Interdisciplinary Study Club brings offers the unique opportunity for specialists from various areas to convene and discuss integrated treatment approaches for complex cases. In addition to prosthodontists, experts in oral surgery, orthodontics and periodontics from across the state contribute to these meetings.

The new Prosthodontics Study Club offers students and residents an in-depth exploration of the field. Currently, upwards of 40 DMD, periodontics, and prosthodontics students from both UKCD and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry participate in the club. Students looking to participate in future meetings can email Prosthodontics Study Club Director Ayah Rashwan (ara282@uky.edu),  co-director Varun Nigam (varin.nigam@uky.edu), or Sean Aiken (sean.aiken@louisville.edu).
