Course Description 

This course meets the requirements of HB1 and satisfies the continuing education requirement for Kentucky Dental License renewal as specified in 201 KAR 8:532, Section 10(e) concerning the use of the Kentucky All Scheduled Prescription Reporting System (KASPER) and addiction disorders. The course will discuss the current opioid epidemic, review the requirements of KASPER, discuss recent changes to KASPER, provide practical utilization of eKASPER for the practicing dentist, and discuss changes in the management of acute dental pain.

MerckeRebecca H. Mercke, DMD, is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral Health and Rehabilitation at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She is course director for the DMD Program’s Pain and Anxiety Control course and the Dental Hygiene Program’s Physical Diagnosis and Medical Management, Biology of the Head and Neck, Local Anesthesia, and Periodontics courses; additionally, she supervises the Dental Hygiene and DMD Recall Clinics. Other teaching experience has included Immunology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Human Biology, Medical Terminology, and Academic Success Seminars. Dr. Mercke is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Dental Hygiene Program and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Her career in dentistry has exceeded 37 years and includes experience in private practice in Bluefield, Virginia and Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Mercke is a member of the Kentucky Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

Refund Policy

A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be issued for all cancellations received in writing two weeks prior to the course date. A 50% refund less a $25 processing fee will be given for cancellations received in writing one week prior to the course date, with no refund thereafter. Refunds cannot be given for cancellations on or after the course starting date. Please note that a written request must be received before a refund may be processed. Registrants may choose to receive a full tuition credit toward another course taken within the academic year.

Cancellation Policy

UK College of Dentistry Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel or modify a course when circumstances warrant, including insufficient enrollment. Dates, faculty or course content will be changed only when unavoidable. If a course has been cancelled, participants will be notified and a refund will be issued. Continuing Dental Education cannot be responsible for non-refundable airfare or other expenses in the event of a course cancellation.
