Academic Offerings

Our doctoral, or DMD, program strives to produce a competent dental graduate who possesses the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the independent practice of dentistry. Consisting of four academic years of instruction, the curriculum provides students with both foundational and applied knowledge in all areas of general dentistry. Satisfactory completion of all coursework and attainment of clinical competence is the basis for the granting of the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

Incoming UK College of Dentistry DMD students interested in taking part in an intensive research experience in conjunction with their dental curriculum have the option of applying for the UK College of Dentistry Research Track program of study. Students do not need to apply to the Research Track in order to perform research while in dental school. Research Track students will gain valuable experience in research, have the opportunity to take part in meaningful studies, and receive scholarship funds to help offset UK College of Dentistry tuition fees. More information is available here.

Postdoctoral programs at UKCD include training through core curriculum coursework, seminars, and clinical patient care. The advanced education programs in the areas of EndodonticsOral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Orofacial Pain, and Advanced General Practice award Master’s degrees and/or certificates.

Additional educational opportunities are available through the continuing education office at UKCD, including a six-month dental assistant training, as well as externships in oral and maxillofacial surgery and oral medicine
